Hampshire YCs got off to a winning start in the ECB Under-17 County Championship, taking 21 points from a `first innings' victory over Devon at the Rose Bowl.
Devon collapsed from 111-1 to 209 all out - six batsmen were bowled and two others trapped leg before - with Wheeler taking three wickets, and Mark Mitchell, Jon Richardson and Matt Hooper two each.
Hampshire tightened their grip with Calmore's Paul Cass (86) sharing significant partnerships with James Walters (50) and Chris Wright (59) before Mitchell, the promising Ventnor all-rounder, underlined his growing stature with an unbeaten 82.
A first innings total of 322-5 gave Colin Beer's side a healthy lead, which Devon wiped out at 202-7 - but giving Hampshire crucial bowling bonus points in the process.
Shanklin all-rounder David Griffiths and Portsmouth wicket-keeper Michael Barnes are included in the Hampshire Under-17 side for Wednesday's two-day match against Somerset at King's Bruton.
