WNCL match result clarified

Cricket Australia today clarified the result of the Women's National Cricket League (WNCL) match between Queensland Fire and Western Fury, played last year on 14 December 2003.
Following a rain-interrupted game, the match was awarded to Western Fury by six runs as calculated under the Duckworth Lewis method for determining results of rain-affected matches.
However, a Cricket Australia review found the match should have been declared a no-result under WNCL playing condition 10.5, as the difference in overs faced by each side was greater than 15.
Queensland Fire completed its full 50-over innings, while the Western Fury faced 30.5 overs before play was abandoned - a difference of 19.1 overs.
A result can only be achieved if both teams have batted for 20 overs each, and the difference in overs received by each team does not exceed 15 overs.
With the match declared a no-result, each team has been awarded two points.
The outcome of the 14 December match does not affect the race to contest this year's WNCL finals series with three teams - the New South Wales Breakers, Southern Scorpions and Victoria Spirit - vying for the last two placings.
The contenders and host state for the WNCL finals will be decided after this weekend's last round of matches, with the New South Wales Breakers hosting Queensland Fire at Hurstville (17 January) and Telstra Stadium (18 January), and the Southern Scorpions taking on Victoria Spirit at Pembroke in South Australia (17-18 January).
