Anil Kumble's short stint with Surrey is already over after he injured his shoulder. Kumble has been diagnosed with tendonitis in his right shoulder, which can only recover with rest, and so he will fly home this Friday, just five weeks after he arrived in Kennington.
He managed to contribute significantly, however, in his short stint, taking 26 wickets across all competitions, including the matchwinning figures of 11 for 183 against Northamptonshire at The Oval.
Surrey's Cricket Manager Alan Butcher was understandably disappointed to be losing Kumble. "From my point of view it was a pleasure working with him," he said, "and I would love the opportunity to do so again in the future.'
Kumble will now turn his attentions to getting fit for the Champions Trophy in October. Although he has not played One Day International cricket for over a year, he was selected in India's provisional 30-man squad for the tournament which will take place in India and is due to start at the beginning of October.
