David Lloyd

Sri Lanka v England, 3rd Test, Galle, 1st day

England wasted first session - David Lloyd

December 18, 2007

It was a big day for cricket, as international cricket was finally back at Galle after the 2004 Tsunami destroyed the stadium. England won the toss and elected to bowl first, but they could not really capitalise on the seaming conditions and now the morning session on the second day holds the key for England.

Why bother with Test Cricket. Poor Umpiring especially from Koertzen, Harper, and Rauf has reduced Test Cricket to a lottery. Bob Willis is right to criticize poor umpiring by the so called 'Elite Panel'. Even Simon Taufel is making several mistakes.

Often we have seen sessions or matches end prematurely due bad light. Specially in tropical areas where curtain fold down as soon as sun set in. Contary to England in summers. I will be an positive option if matches start early say by 9-10 am in places like Sri Lanka. ca2ca

We've heard of the pitch conditions but what is the weather forecast for the next couple of days? The result of this match will depend on this factor more than anything else.

England even though took a good decision to bowl first in conditions favourable to their quicks are still taking a big gamble as they would have to face murali on the last day. england must be ok with 147 for 4 at the end of the day considering the way they started ,still vaughan must be dissapointed as david say's.for england to have any chance they must end Srilanka's innings inside 275 tomorow and the key for that would be to get jayawardane early, also england's batting must fire big time they must look to bat just once in this test as chasing any kind of target in the last innings against murali is going to be difficult.
