Michael Hussey expects some stiff competition from Sri Lanka ahead of the best-of-three VB Series finals starting on Friday, and he believes the slow pitches in Adelaide and Sydney should suit their type of bowling.
"It's going to be a really tough game against the Sri Lankans, particularly here [Adelaide] where the conditions suit them," he told AFP. "We had a good win against Sri Lanka here, but it certainly does suit them a bit better than pitches like the Gabba."
South Africa needed to defeat Sri Lanka at Hobart to secure a place in the finals, but they were knocked out after a dramatic batting collapse. "So [Sri Lanka are] probably playing the better cricket at this point," he said. "They've played the most consistent cricket, so I think that's good for cricket to get the best teams in this series playing in the finals."
Hussey said the South Africans needed to recharge their batteries before hosting Australia later this month. "It's been a long tour having Tests and one-dayers so I'm sure they're pretty weary and looking forward to getting home and getting into their own beds," he said.
The second VB Series final is at the SCG on Sunday and the third final, if required, is scheduled for the Gabba on Tuesday.
