Former West Indies fast bowler Michael Holding has told London newspaper The Voice that he has no faith in ability of the current members of the West Indies Cricket Board to get it out of the parlous financial state it is in. Last week, it was revealed that the WICB was almost $35 million in debt.
"The thing is the WICB is broke, they owe millions and have been assured of a certain amount of profit from the World Cup," Holding told the newspaper. "The amount of profit they looked as if they would be getting is not as much as it will be, but it should still be a fair amount which will pay for all of the debts they have got and perhaps they might have some money left over.
"But the important thing is, will they be able to sustain liquidity after the World Cup or will they be sliding back into the same position they find themselves in now in a few years time? Do they have any plans? That is what people have to ask.
"I am not very confident that the current governing body can formulate a plan to take West Indies cricket out of debt. They got a lot of money from Sky not too long ago when Sky bought the rights to cricket in the West Indies. Where has that money gone?"
Holding made it clear that he had no faith in the board, and that even if the World Cup did produce enough to clear the debt there was no evidence that it would do any better next time.
Holding's comments will add to the pressure on the WICB who have remained silent in the aftermath of the latest report.
