Kenyans in Zimbabwe, 2002-03

John Ward

A week after Zimbabwe's comprehensive defeat by Pakistan in both Test and limited-overs series, they were offered a pick-me-up in the form of three one-day internationals against the Kenyans in advance of the World Cup. Kenya arrived during the wet season, and though they did win one rainaffected game against Zimbabwe A, they never seriously threatened the senior side; their bowlers took only four wickets between them in the 71 overs they delivered. Zimbabwe were still missing their captain, Heath Streak, but some of their injured bowlers - Douglas Hondo, Travis Friend and finally Andy Blignaut - returned from injury during the series, and all of them prospered. Unusually for a modern one-day international series, there was no TV umpire: the series was not televised.
