The long-awaited Triangular Tournament, involving England, Australia and South Africa, was an unmitigated failure - "such a combination of adverse conditions could hardly have been anticipated," said the editor, Sydney Pardon. He also dwelt on the poor and unhappy Australian tourists (a pre-tour dispute had cost the services of six of their leading players) whose "personal differences went too deep to admit adjustment". But England's success, allied to that in Australia in 1911-12, had left them "clearly at the top of the tree". For the first time, the Almanack topped 600 pages, although the rather strange system of numbering the match scores separately from the other parts of the book, meant that in reality this volume ran to 842 pages.
