†PAKISTAN v WEST INDIES 1984-85

At Melbourne, March 6 (day/night)

15-Apr-1986
At Melbourne, March 6 (day/night). Pakistan won by seven wickets, a sweeping and unexpected victory after Lloyd, playing his last match for West Indies, had won the toss and chosen to bat. Other than a rain-affected match against New Zealand and a canter against Sri Lanka, West Indies had had an idle three weeks and this showed in their cricket. They also missed Gomes, absent through injury. As Lloyd said afterwards, West Indies simply batted badly. Wasim Raja, with ten good overs of leg-breaks, and his brother, Ramiz, with a dashing innings of 60; Mudassar and Tahir, with accurate medium pace; Qasim Omar, with a precocious 42 not out, and Mohsin with a dogged 23 in 36 overs were the main contributors to Pakistan's success. West Indies' best efforts came from Marshall and Holding, who frequently beat the bat.
Man of the Match: Ramiz Raja. Attendance: 11,433.
