Colin Drybrough was a middle-order batsman and slow left-armer who made his county debut before starting on three seasons at Oxford where he captained them in his second and third - 1961 and 1962. In all three years he played full-time for Middlesex in the holidays and he took over as Middlesex captain as soon as he had finished his studies in 1963. At Oxford he had scored well, but at Middlesex he dropped down the order and concentrated on his bowling. He took over at a difficult time with the club an unhappy place following the retirement of Ian Bedford. In his two seasons at the helm Middlesex finished sixth but it was a far from happy time and he retired at the end of 1964.
