The wicketkeeper in the UAE squad for the 1996 World Cup, Imtiaz Abbasi originally played first-class cricket in Pakistan, where his seven catches on debut for Karachi against Quetta in a Patron`s Trophy match in 1988 was a domestic record in Pakistan. A right-hand lower order batsman, he excelled behind the stumps for UAE, taking five catches against Bangladesh in the ICC trophy match in 1994. He was declared the best wicketkeeper in the ICC Trophy with a haul of 22 dismissals in nine matches.
