Vikramjeet Malik made his debut in the 2002-03 season, and has been ever present in Himachal Pradesh's seam attack for over a decade. He has picked up over 300 first-class wickets while doing most of his work almost unnoticed in the lower tier of the Ranji Trophy. He was among the top five wicket-takers in the Ranji Trophy in 2008-09 and 2009-10, claiming more than 30 wickets in both seasons, at sub-20 averages.
Around this time, he was also an occasional member of the Kings XI Punjab bowling attack, playing nine matches for them from 2009 to 2011. He moved to Rajasthan Royals in 2013, and picked up eight wickets in seven matches for them, including a three-wicket haul that won him the Player of the Match award against Mumbai Indians in the 2013 Champions League.
At the 2016 player auction, Royal Challengers Bangalore paid Rs. 20 lakh to secure Malik at his base price. They went for him despite the fact that he had not played any first-class games since February 2015, List A matches since November 2014, and T20s since May 2014.
