goes for the yorker, but ends up bowling an ankle-high full toss on the pads. Whips this away, and that's that, ladies and gentlemen...
New Zealand vs India, 3rd ODI at Mount Maunganui, NZ v IND, Feb 11 2020 - Match Result
New Zealand won by 5 wickets (with 17 balls remaining)
10.53pm That's that. No taking away from how good New Zealand have been through this series. Sets us up perfectly for the two Tests to follow, I reckon. On behalf of Chandan Duorah and Saurabh Somani, this is Debayan Sen saying goodbye. Thanks for your company, and follow the game with ESPNcricinfo.
Kane Williamson: "An outstanding performance. Very clinical - India put us under pressure, but the way the guys fought back with the ball and kept them to a par total. The cricket smarts in the second half was outstanding to see. We know how good they are at all formats, but for us the clarity about the roles the guys had was the most important thing. The ODI side will be taking this momentum into the Australia series. Outstanding effort against a brilliant India side. (On his own performance) It's recovering well."
Virat Kohli: "I think the first match, we were pretty much in the contest. All three games, the composure and the way we fielded wasn't good enough for international cricket. The way we came back was a positive for us. In the field, we weren't good enough at all. (On New Zealand) We played really well in the T20 series, here in the ODIs, a couple of new guys, good experience for them. They played with a lot more intensity after the T20 series. They deservedly won 3-0. I think because of the Test Championship, every match has that more importance. We have a really balanced Test team and we feel we can win the series here, but we need to step on to the park with the right kind of mindset."
Ross Taylor is the Man of the Series.
Henry Nicholls is the Man of the Match: "To make it 3-0 was what we wanted to do. To put in a good performance in a chase was good. (Batting with Guptill) The way he started put us in a good position in the run chase. It certainly helps me that he scores so quickly. The idea was to put them under pressure. I could just play second fiddle. We've scored well in the first three matches, and that's good to take into the Test matches."
Shardul Thakur has the worst economy rate for any India bowler with 10 wickets and in the top 5 worst averages -- only Dinda ahead of him, says Gaurav Sundararaman.
10.43pm Presentation coming up shortly...
Naresh: "If Shardul completed his quota, he would have scored more than Rahul! #DisappointingTimes! "
Doc: "WOW! Blown away by the Kiwi's this series. Nothing but admiration from over here in South Africa. "
10.38 And so New Zealand consign India to their first bilateral series whitewash in 31 years -- also the first time in 14 years, that India have failed to win a single game in one. Set up so well by the openers, and finished off in style by Latham and de Grandhomme. India will be most disappointed by yet another underwhelming effort by their bowlers. Probably went a little below par on a belter of a pitch with the score, but the way their bowlers began with the new ball set the tone for what deservedly now looks like an easy chase. Yuzvendra Chahal caused a few flutters with a couple of quick wickets, but New Zealand always looked in control of this.
Here's Thakur
Anmol Saxena: "This is so disappointing! No fight shown at all by the bowling unit. Is this our true bench strength? Apart from Shami and Jadeja - no one has really looked the goods. Even Bumrah has looked ordinary. The once unplayable Bumrah has been handled and man-handled by the Kiwis. Thakur is definitely not fit for this level. I question why the likes of Ashwin were left behind. Kuldeep lacks confidence and you can see it on his face. Gosh. All the talk of having the best attack in the world..."
Colin de Grandhomme is set to bring this one home
length, and he punches this past point. There's a man in the deep who comes to field, and they settle for the single
length, punched towards cover
length, defended around off
length, around off, and he gets an inside edge, but it goes along the ground through to Rahul
length, angles in, and he plays this towards square leg. Wants two, but de Grandhomme sends him back
length, pushed towards cover. There's a quick single pinched, with a shy at the non-striker's end missing anyway
Prashanth: "Shardul Thakur = Short + wide" --- To be fair, the length was fuller in the last two balls, and he did make CdG look a bit silly...
fuller, on the pads, and he whips this away towards deep square leg
oh, it's all rolling the Kiwi way right now! Fuller ball, off the inside edge, and through to fine leg. Fifty off just 21 balls!
AG: "Horrible bowling. Very disappointing "
short, wide, and he has just helped this along, over deep point
short, and he gets some bat on it as he looks to hook this. Runs away to the fine leg boundary
defended towards cover
Raj: "Reminds me of old days of Srinath, Prasad, Prabhakar etc. The moment batsmen went on attacking mode, they inexplicably started bowling full tosses and length balls ready to be hit. Work needs to be done... " --- I keep telling my younger colleagues that this was the best time to be an India fan. The bar of expectations was set pretty low, despite having had a World Cup win
short, down the leg side, and too high as well
short, wide, and cut away past point. Bad ball, and punished!
length, played towards mid-on. Quick single called for, and taken
length, around off, and he defends with a drive
Andrew Schulz: "I think it was Pickwick who described Australia's attack as paper thin during the recent series in India. There is no substance in the universe to describe how thin this Indian bowling unit is."
full toss, and he has whipped this away towards deep mid-wicket. I think the only challenge there was a bit of disbelief at how bad that ball was from Bumrah. Bad direction, and worse length!
slower ball, off-cutter, and read to perfection. Just works this towards deep mid-wicket
short of a length, into his body, and he does well to swat it away towards deep square leg. Did well to get it away from any fielder, just moving his body outside the line of that
fullish length, but he stretches forward to slice this towards deep point
Speaking of yorkers, here's Bumrah
Pavan: "Where are the yorkers ... why so many length balls?"
