Geez! Multan Sultans win after giving a major scare to their fans! Hits a full-length just outside off, he manages to put some bat on it, fielder (Faheem Ashraf) at point charged in and chucks a throw but it's away from the stumps at striker's end, so close to what could have been the first Super Over of PSL!
United vs Sultans, 5th Match at Multan, PSL, Feb 20 2024 - Match Result
Sultans won by 5 wickets (with 1 ball remaining)
So Multan Sultans played with the emotions of their fans and almost botched the chase. They only had to track down 145 but a string of dots in the last couple of overs sent the game to the final over and had there been fewer misfields, the result could have been different. United lost the plot with the bat and that shuffle in the batting order didn't work in their favor. That being said, take no credit away from Mohammad Ali, who made the ball talk and was on top of his skill. He set the tone upfront and other bowlers held their end of the bargain, rallied around him superbly. So that's it from this exhilarating game. Come back tomorrow for the double-header! Until then, it's goodbye and goodnight from Rvel Zahid
Meeting underway between Shadab, Mills and some more teammates. Umpire is getting fidgety
Yorker length tailing in at off, makes room and forces it into the covers, how did Multan took this game down to the wire? Should have been a straightforward chase
Fraction short and slanting across off, hangs back and hammered hard to deep midwicket and Iftikhar is livid with himself, he thought it was in his arc and should have gone out of the park
Direct hit at non-striker would have been curtains, Shadab out of all fielders misses the target! Slapped on the rise to mid-off and they get a scampered single
Manthan Jain: "Have been following many T20 leagues but not often saw bowlers bowling scorching Yorkers and searing hard lengths like this or this many number of times as in psl ........"
Shortish and cramping him for room as he steps towards the on side, fends it on the rise to cover, 4 off 5
Good length, nips back at middle, whangs it away off his pads into the empty spaces at deep midwicket and the couple hares for the second, makes it comfortably in the end, just one hit away from win
Short and wide of off, rooted back in his crease and tugs it across the line between midwicket and long-on
Rapid snorter outside off climbing steeply off the deck, shuffles across and can't lay bat on it
Superb shot! Juicy half-volley outside off, watches the ball like a hawk and knucks it past cover for a scintillating boundary, places it in the gap between cover and extra cover, beautifully done
Hits the deck hard and gets it to kick off the pitch wide of off, throws his bat at it and Shadab Khan pouches it as easy as you like at mid-off. That's soft!
Bustling in and spears a wide yorker, digs it out to cover, fielder with a wayward throw, nobody really backing up and they wind up getting another run
On a length slanting across off, picks the slow ball early and clubs it over deep midwicket for a six, that has relieved all the pressure, only 13 off 12 required. That was a gift for Iftikhar, not sure if pace-off was the best idea against Iftikhar, he got down and hits it with momentum, was in a great position
Yorker length tailing in from outside off, pings an on-drive to long-on
Pitched up, searing yorker outside off, driven straight to mid-off and he chucks a throw at striker's end to prevent any thoughts of a single
Is there a twist in the tale? Touch short on middle and leg, tried to plonk that over leg side, got a top-edge that flew towards Faheem Ashraf who reverse-cups it in his hands right down his throat and Mills claps, he hasn't given up!
Dodgy call for a run Back of a length, wicket-to-wicket, defended to the on side, Mills hunts it down quickly and rifles a throw at striker's end
Appeal for a caught behind, umpire looks unsure. Was a short ball just outside leg stump, he went for the pull with the flow and Azam think he may have feathered it. Review taken. There was a sound. Close to the glove. We're waiting for the ultra-edge. Let's have a look. No spike on ultra-edge so that's that
Almost another one! Fancies the midwicket region and strongarms a pull, fielder in the deep puts in a timely dive to prevent a boundary
Thrashed! Shifted gears! Yanks his front leg out of the way and then pumps it off the middle of the bat to deep midwicket boundary. Dropped it short and he duly dispatches the loosener.
Gets to his fifty with a superb slog sweep and it sped away for four, no chance for the man at square leg to cut it off. He is in a hurry to finish the game!
