Johnson completes Australia's demolition job! On a length and nips back in against the angle from left-arm over to breach the defences and hit the top of off stump
South Africa vs Australia, 1st T20I at Durban, SA v AUS, Aug 30 2023 - Match Result
Marsh and Tim David's 97-run partnership is AUS's highest for the 5th wicket in T20Is, breaking the record of 83 between Ricky Ponting and Simon Katich
9.20pm So, Australia wrap up a mammoth 111-run victory. It was set up by their new captain Mitch Marsh, who smashed a 22-ball half-century. Tim David then launched from the platform and powered Australia to 226 for 6 - the highest T20I total at Kingsmead. Debutant Tanveer Sangha then joined Australia's party with a four-wicket haul. SA never got going in their chase and folded for 115 with 27 balls unused in their chase. That's all we have for you from this game. Until next time, this is Deivarayan Muthu signing off on the behalf of Abhimanyu Bose and P Ranjith. Cheers.
Markram, SA captain: The wicket played really well and there was a bit of rust in every discipline. That's no excuse for me and opportunities for new guys. It felt and looked a bit rusty and we have to come back strong on Friday. We want to be competitive and win games for the country.
Mitchell Marsh, Australia captain and Player of the Match: Always nice to start a three-match series win a win and to score runs. I mean there's a long process with injury and proud to be back and playing for Australia. Nice to contribute for the team. I thought Tim David was fantastic and the way he took pressure off me. I was playing a lot of Test cricket and missed my swing towards the end. Sangha has done well in the Big Bash and he's a fantastic talent.
short and veering down the leg side for a wide
dug in short and angling across off, possibly another slower ball that runs past the outside edge
No.11 Shamsi
Caught at long-on. David snatches it on the rebound. Suspect this was the slower ball from Johnson, takes it away from Hendricks. He can only drag it to the outfielder. Maiden international wicket for Johnson
low full-toss on off stump, punched to extra-cover. The ball bursts through the hands of the infielder
slower short ball on leg stump, which is hauled away to deep square leg
just short of a good length and outside off, stabbed into the covers on the back foot
slower ball, hung wide of off stump, Hendricks flashes and does not make any contact with it
shortish and outside off, slashed away to deep third
back of a length and on middle and leg, hangs back and clips it away through midwicket
Hardie into the attack
Aby Mathew: "Aussies have dominated every single over of this match so far . Only thing they lost was the toss."
slower offcutter, does not bounce as much as Ngidi expected it to, inside-edged onto the box. Ngidi winces in pain
Ngidi at No.10 for SA
Holes out to mid-on. Hard-length delivery from Stoinis as he bowls deep into the pitch. Cramps Williams and has him miscuing a pull to mid-on
Low full toss, which is chipped past the left of Stoinis. He stretches both his hands, but the ball pops out. That will go down as a drop
slower short ball outside off, Hendricks swings too early and misses it altogether
wafted behind square off an inside edge as Stoinis gets this to nip back in against the angle from over the stumps
Williams at No.9
slowie outside off, Coetzee winds up and ends up holing out to Tim David at long-on. He gets more height as opposed to distance. David settles under this skier
Stoinis is back into the attack
darted on top of off stump, cramps the batter for room, jammed down to long-on. Sangha finishes with 4 for 31 on debut. Well done
Can Sangha get one more? One ball left in his spell. Coetzee is the new man for SA. Another player on debut tonight
Good comeback from Sangha. The debutant cleans up Jansen. Seems like the wrong'un, fizzes in as opposed to turning away. Jansen has a big slog at it and misses it altogether. Sangha doesn't miss his target
flighted and turns away outside off, now it's Jansen's turn to go inside-out over extra-cover. Lovely extension of the arms from Jansen
slog-swept away to deep midwicket
